What Are Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)?
BESS enclosures are modular enclosures sealed within watertight layered steel and maintained at a safe operating temperature. They safely store and deliver power and are well established in the United States and California, where Terra-Gen operates seven facilities.
BESS systems are clean, green replacements for power generation that would require burning fossil fuels. The BESS systems are essential to supporting existing and new investments in renewable energy supplies for New York State. The BESS storage units charge from the grid when renewable energy supplies are abundant or in surplus. Batteries discharge power to the grid when prices are high, there is an energy shortage or the grid requires energy to ensure smooth operations. These systems provide reliable instantaneous power during peak power demands, preventing brownouts/blackouts.
