NEW YORK, July 28, 2025 — Today, leading fire safety officials and experts from across New York released a joint Fire Safety Declaration applauding the New York State Fire Prevention and Building Code Council for adopting updated fire safety regulations for battery energy storage systems (BESS). The new regulations, adopted as part of the Code Council’s July 25 vote to amend the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code, build on New York’s already strong foundation and are now among the most stringent in the country.
